Geneva Tourist Attractions

Switzerland's beautiful Lake Geneva, or Lac Léman, is also shared by neighbouring country France. Geneva lies at the lake's southern tip, a crescent-shaped lake that is overlooked by the highest mountain of the Alps: the Mont-Blanc. Geneva Pass offers visitors many discounted ways to travel around, including city buses, the tram and boats on the lake. Geneva Pass is available for 24, 48 and 72 hours, starting from 20.80 CHF with a 20% winter discount.

The Pass also enables visitors to visit some 50 tourist attractions for free.

Here is a small selection of what to do in Geneva:

Chamonix and Mont-Blanc

Join day tours with French and English speaking guides to see Chamonix, the place where the first Winter Olympics were held. Take a cable car up to Aiguille du Midi and enjoy breath-taking views across France, Italy and Switzerland. Chamonix is one of the world's best known winter sports resorts, offering trail running and skiing, climbing and hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking, as well as paragliding. At 4,808 m above sea level Mont-Blanc is the Alp's highest peak – and one of the best ways to see the Alps in all their natural splendour.

Lac Léman – Lake Geneva Boat Trip

Geneva sits at the southern end, Montreux at the lake's north-eastern tip. You can either join one of the regular taxi-boats or hop on a cruise at Pierres du Niton and head towards the Pointe à la Bise, which includes a trip past the lake's amazing fountain, the famous Jet d'Eau. Overlooked by Mont-Blanc, Lake Geneva is also lined by many famous buildings, including the offices of the UN.

International Quarters and Geneva Old Town (Vieille-Ville)

Geneva's historic center is the oldest in Switzerland, dominated by St Peter's Cathedral with its impressive towers. Climb up 157 steps for the best view of the city.

Swiss Chocolate and European Anecdotes

The tour lets you see the Old Town, while trying many different types of delicious chocolate, including chocolate ice cream, truffles and pralines made by some of Geneva's best chocolateries. And while you're munching, your multi-lingual guide will tell you many interesting facts about chocolate-making and the city (take a look at the short video on https://localflavourstours.com to get an idea of these tours are like).

Discover Geneva Game

Instead of hopping on a tram join a Discover Geneva interactive game and explore the city on foot. Tours start at Opera Gallery on Place de Longemalle, where you have to work out your first clue for the second destination. In total you have to solve 8 clues, which are not just about the history of Geneva. You'll learn many fun facts about local culture and people.

There are day trip destinations within a short drive: Gruyères is within a 1.5 hour drive via the A1 motorway, Vernier is only 2.9 km away via the Avenue du Pailly, and Lausanne is just 62 km distance from Geneva with car rental.
